About us.

Close-up of a decorative textile with intricate red crochet patterns and hanging beads and rings on a light background.

Melbourne-based designer Charmaine De Lima founded Shemie in 2024 ~ a crochet-focused label infused with Lebanese soul and a deep appreciation for artisanal craft. Each piece is made to order and intricately handcrafted by Charmaine herself, reflecting generations of tradition, patience, and care.

Rooted in the philosophy of slow fashion, Shemie celebrates quality over quantity. Every garment is thoughtfully created in limited numbers, encouraging a more intentional and mindful approach to dressing. These pieces are designed not only to be worn, but to empower. Carrying the story of their maker and the heritage that inspires them.

With a focus on season-less design, Shemie moves beyond trends, offering timeless garments made to be cherished for a lifetime, wherever you are in the world.

A Memoir

This beautiful, inspiring collection of mine, from 2017, became the foundation of Shemie. My obsession with my heritage and traditions pushed me in this direction. All the little details, including the beading, embroidery, and crochet, as well as reading old craft books, are where I fell in love. I think it’s why I spend so much time on traditional craftsmanship: It tells stories.

Stories you learn from your grandparents and parents.
